Video Premiere: On the Road with Hot Rize “Western Skies”

January 23, 2015

In 2014, celebrated bluegrass quartet Hot Rize (Tim O’Brien, Pete Wernick, Nick Forster and Bryan Sutton) returned with their first studio album in 24 years. Today we premiere the video for “Western Skies” from that new record, When I’m Free. Forster (who also hosts the weekly eTown radio show) tells Relix, “We had a fun and busy fall tour after the release of our first CD in many years, When I’m Free. The title comes from the chorus of song I wrote with help from Tim. It’s about the thing that happens when you find yourself out west: the sky opens up and you feel a sense of freedom and possibility that is more elusive on a cold and dreary day back east. That feeling drew Tim and Pete and me from the east to Colorado in the 70’s. Even now, when things are closing in or getting you down, we need to be reminded of that feeling of wide open spaces. Thanks to our tour manager and sound engineer, Dan Foldes, for capturing this view of our life on the road.”
