Video Premiere: Miracles of Modern Science “The Chop”

September 24, 2015

Miracles of Modern Science‘s “chamber pop” is something altogether novel and and engaging. The group blends violin, cello, mandolin, double bass and drums on their second album, Mean Dreams. Today we premiere official video for “The Chop” from the record. The band explains, “Late in the process of writing Mean Dreams, we were struggling with two songs –- a ‘Danger Zone’-esque 80s pastiche, and a mandolin-driven power pop tune –– that had been languishing near-finished for months. We were about ready to scrap them, when late one night I tried lifting out my favorite bits from both –– a cello-violin trading harmonics riff, a previously rejected vocal melody, and that power pop chorus –– and mashing them together with a stomp-clap beat and lyrics channeling our harsh self-criticism and frustration with the creative process. As for the video, the group adds, “we wanted to highlight the song’s “choppy” rhythmic energy while messing with the format of the band-in-a-room performance video.”
