Video Premiere: Matthew Logan Vasquez “Old Ways” featuring Lili Hayes

April 18, 2017

The new solo album from Delta Spirit co-founder Matthew Logan Vasquez is set for release this Friday, April 21. Vasquez has explained that this record began as a potential Delta Spirit release before it evolved into a solo record. He explains, “I was imagining a new Delta Spirit album as I was writing. But I began to realize that’s not exactly where I’m at right now. The band isn’t broken up but it’s not coming back right now. I started to feel like Rhett Miller, who had to go away from the Old 97s for a while so he could get tap into his creativity and come back to the band in a new and healthy way.”

Vasquez wrote and recorded the basic tracks for Does What He Wants in a trailer located an hour west of Austin. He also enlisted vocalist Kam Franklin (The Suffers) and drummer Christopher Booshada (Shakey Graves). Backup vocals and sting were supplied by the Parkington Sisters, who joined Vasquez and Middle Brother at last year’s Newport Folk Festival.

Today we premiere the video for “Old Ways” from the forthcoming album. Vasquez tells Relix, “”Here is my single Old Ways featuring Lili Hayes and directed by her son Kevin Hayes. I’m a big fan off Lili’s instagram y’all should check it out! @lili_hayes!”

Does What He Wants is now available for pre-order. Vasquez will support the new record with a series of dates, which are listed beneath the video.
