Today we premiere the new video for “Alibi” from the New York-based soul-funk act Lawrence. Siblings Clyde and Gracie Lawrence enlisted Eric Krasno to produce their debut, Breakfast (which is now available in a variety of formats). Breakfast also features guest appearances by Adam Deitch (Lettuce), Cory Henry (Snarky Puppy), and Maurice Brown (Tedeschi Trucks Band). In our review of the album, we noted that “Breakfast is a welcome addition to the current retro-soul music revival scene.”

The engaging video for “Alibi” effectively captures the spirit of the group. Clyde and Gracie tell Relix, “We’re always trying to combine our old and new influences, and ‘Alibi’ is a total example of that. It’s funny though that we are so inspired by old-school soul and rock bands, but we so don’t fit in with some of their more polished qualities — we don’t wear matching suits, we look better in color than in black and white, and most importantly, we are terrible dancers. This video was a fun and somewhat embarrassing way for us to showcase how much more comfortable we are jamming in front of our friends, because when we try to look fancy doing a coordinated dance, we end up fumbling our way through it.”
