Video Premiere: American Babies “What Does It Mean To Be?”

February 3, 2016

The next American Babies studio album, An Epic Battle Between Light & Dark is set fro release on March 18 (it is now available for pre-order). Tom Hamilton (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Billy & The Kids) , the creative force behind the project has described the album as “a meditation on mood” and cited the suicide of actor/comedian Robin Williams as a precipitating factor in the recording process.

Today we premiere the video for “What Does It Mean To Be?” from the record. Hamilton, who also directed the video, tells Relix, “The song itself comes from me being in my mid-thirties, which I find to be a weird middle ground. I’m not young, and I’m not old. I just am. I’m full of equal parts of youth’s naivety and experience’s hesitation. So as I explored these thoughts I would hag out with and talk with my folks and other “baby boomers”, who all say the same stuff. “I’m in my 60’s physically, and I feel that every morning. But mentally I’m still a kid in my 20’s.” This is where the video was born from. These two guys who have been hanging out since they were 20, who when they are together still feel and act the way they did back then, have to face the realities of time every morning. Their youthful, exciting minds are being betrayed by their bodies and the calendar. It’s a rough reality that no one escapes and one that I am barreling towards. “
