Video: Aberdeen, WA Reluctantly Celebrates Kurt Cobain Day

by Rob Slater on February 21, 2014

Abderdeen, WA celebrated Kurt Cobain Day on February 20 to celebrate the 47th birthday of the late Nirvana frontman. Festivities throughout the day included a live concert from a three-piece band playing, you guessed it, Nirvana covers, as well as the unveiling of a statue in honor of Cobain. Putting aside how creepy that single tear is rolling down Cobain's face, the statue serves as a nice homage to the fallen idol.

Local Seattle news station King 5 did the opposite of a nice tribute when summing up the day's events. Anchor Dennis Bounds opted for describing Cobain as "the well known heroin addict who shot himself" and the report included a meandering interview with a fan and barely touched on Cobain's contributions to the music world. Watch the report below.
