Umphrey’s McGee hasn’t had to play a show without Jake Cinninger since before he was in the band but that’s exactly what they faced last week as their all-around stunt guitar wizard had to bow out with a nasty case of the flu. 

Cinninger returned last night in his home state of Michigan and the band had the perfect announcement for welcoming their guitarist back to duty, by turning his guitar into a lightsaber (some nights, it sounds like he’s wielding The Force) on the band’s Facebook page.

Umphrey’s McGee and Star Wars have a close bond over the years, as Yoda and R2D2 sit atop the amps of Brendan Bayliss and Jake Cinninger, respectively, and the group has even covered “Cantina Band” in the past as well as used The Force in a band commercial. Regardless, it’s great to have the Jedi back.
