Umphrey’s McGee Had A Lot of Fun on Their West Coast Tour

March 30, 2017

Tours come and go with the seasons but sometimes a run of shows finds a band in a particularly prosperous headspace. That’s what Umphrey’s McGee experienced on their West Coast tour as the sextet expanded their musical boundaries every night, delivering 20-minute jam after jam after jam, a relentless onslaught of improvisation that occurred consistently throughout the run.

It’s fitting, of course, that the band document the moment. And in this short video released today titled “umLIFE,” you hear from the various members of the group as they talk about the lovely jaunt across America’s West.

“If we had to go out and play the same show every night, we would burn out,” Ryan Stasik says at one point. Jake Cinninger adds, “No pussyfooting around.”

They certainly didn’t waste much time. Watch the video below and an example of said exploration from Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas, an expansive version of “The Floor” coupled with Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire.”
