Umphrey’s McGee Did the Damn Thing to “Similar Skin” at The Tabernacle

January 18, 2017

Atlanta’s Tabernacle ranks as simply one of the best places to see noted music enthusiasts Umphrey’s McGee do their thing, and that was further bolstered with a blistering three-night run over the weekend.

While the band played inspired throughout, the opening “Similar Skin” from their January 14 show on Saturday night really took it over the top, as the band embarked on a 17-minute journey that saw them stretch nearly every improv muscle they have. Bouncing from slinky funk to stop-time jamming that took on an acid jazz-y feel, this “Similar Skin” becomes very, very unrecognizable to its counterparts.

Watch the tune in pro-shot glory.
