Umphrey’s McGee and Los Lobos Make Cover Song Bet on Cubs v. Dodgers Series

Umphrey’s McGee are noted sports fans and some of the biggest supporters of the Chicago Cubs that you’re likely to find in any one prog-rock jamband, as they’ve sung the National Anthem at Wrigley Field, thrown out first pitches and more. Now the band and their cross-country counterparts Los Lobos are entering into a “Friendly Wager” in relation to the Cubs current playoff series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who just so happen to count the Lobos guys as fans.

The winner of the seven-game series will see their respective fan-band cover a tune by the other group, which, beyond being a funny bet, could potentially result in a pretty cool new take on an old tune. Last night’s game in LA saw the Cubs emerge victorious to take a 3-2 series lead, so Los Lobos have their work cut out for them. Game 6 is tomorrow night in Chicago.

Here’s hoping the impossible happens: both teams lose and we get double the covers (of course, that’s assuming the language used in the official bet was something like “The fans of the team that doesn’t win…”).
