Today in 1999, a Young Derek Trucks Joined Phish for “Funky Bitch”

July 7, 2017

July 7th is “fun with numbers” day in Phish history as the band has played exactly seven shows on the seventh day of the seventh month of the year throughout their career. And yes, the beginning of Phish’s next tour is seven days away.

Numbers aside, one of those shows came in 1999 when the band stopped in Charlotte on their summer tour. For the encore, the group welcomed out a baby-faced Derek Trucks (just 20 years old at the time) to sit in with them for the encore that included “Possum” as well as the below “Funky Bitch.”
