Throwback Thursday: Umphrey’s Finally Covers Tool

One of the biggest build-ups in, potentially, Umphrey’s McGee history came in the form of Tool’s “Forty Six & 2” during the band’s 2012 tour. Fans hounded Ryan Stasik (an unabashed Tool fan), to encourage the band to cover the song. For months, the bassist promised it was coming soon, that they were working on it.

Then finally, it happened. The Tool classic appeared on the UMBowl ballot for that year and of course it ended up as the highest vote-getter next to the Grateful Dead’s “Help On the Way” > “Slipknot!”
