Throwback Thursday: The Tahoe “Tweezer”

July 31, 2014

Whether you braved the late hours on the east coast to stream it live or woke up the next morning to find out, everyone remembers where they were when they heard of the now-famous Tahoe “Tweezer.” One year ago today, Phish was gracing the intimate, gorgeous venue in Stateline, NV with one of its finest achievements not just in 3.0, but in the entirety of their career. This 36-minute masterpiece saw all four members throw caution to the wind and let it go. Yes, there were “woos” which had become a theme on the west coast tour that year, but despite that you have several distinct sections with their own feel.

Phish came out of the gates swinging for set two. And, despite this being the opener, managed to play a pretty great set after that as well. Many forget that “Tela” developed out of the “Tweezer” jam as well as “Twist,” “Architect,” “Bouncing Around the Room” and “Run Like an Antelope.” But, the magic belongs with the set opener.
