This is Karl Meltzer. Odds are Karl runs more than you do, and in the last forty five days he’s also probably listened to more Grateful Dead, Phish or Strangefolk than you have.

See, Karl has spent the last six weeks hiking the entire Appalachian Trail, which spans 2,190 miles from Maine to Georgia. He hiked and ran the whole damn thing in 45 days, 22 hours and 38 minutes, touching down at Georgia’s Springer Mountain on Sunday.

Speaking to Trail Runner Magazine, Meltzer said he definitely needed some tunes to accompany his trek. “There was a lot of Grateful Dead, but not the studio stuff – the stuff where they really get jamming for a long time,” he said. That makes sense, as he had plenty of time for a 35-minute “Dark Star.” He also added, ““I had some Strangefolk, a little Phish. I like that jam stuff.”

Aside from his jam-heavy tendencies, Meltzer is an impressively accomplished ultrarunner, winning more 100-mile races than anyone ever. The Appalachian Trail trek lasted 46 days, so naturally here is a “46 Days” for Karl’s incredible accomplishment.
