Song Premiere: Umphrey’s McGee “Electric Avenue to Hell” (feat. Jen Hartswick)

October 14, 2016

On November 11, Umphrey’s McGee will unveil their new mashup album ZONKEY and today we’re excited to premiere the Eddy Grant, AC/DC and Umphrey’s concoction, “Electric Avenue to Hell” featuring special guest Jen Hartswick .

“Once I realized Bon Scott was one of the hardest vocals to nail, Jen was the first voice that popped in my head,” UM guitarist Jake Cinninger told Relix. Cinninger, who handled the “Highway to Hell” portion of the song during the mashup’s live debut on Halloween night in 2013, enlisted the Trey Anastasio Band singer for the studio cut of the song that also incorporates Eddy Grant’s pop sensation “Electric Avenue” and the band’s own “Triple Wide.” “Some of those high notes just kill,” he added.

Hartswick joined the band at North Coast Festival in Chicago for their second live performance of the tune to debut her AC/DC vocals shortly before the album was announced. “Any time the boys ask me to be a part of their shenanigans, I’m always game,” she said. “But getting to sing AC/DC over the groove to ‘Electric Avenue’ was next level fun.”
