Song Premiere: Otis Taylor “The Heart is a Muscle (Used for the Blues)”

April 28, 2015

Hey Joe Opus/Red Meat, the forthcoming album from Otis Taylor continues his exploration of a psychedelic sound that he describes as “trance blues.” Hey Joe Opus/Red Meat, which is set for a May 5 release and is now available for pre-order, features guest appearances by Warren Haynes, Langhorne Slim and Bill Nershi. Today we premiere “The Heart is a Muscle (Used for the Blues)” from the album. Taylor tells Relix, “The song is actually about teenage pregnancy. I view the heart as a real muscle. If you go by your heart, you can end up in a lot of shit. When a girl sees a boy she likes, her heat beats faster. She gets pregnant. It’s like the Trojan Horse, a war fought over a woman running off with another man. A teen pregnancy can ruin a girl’s life. And then comes the blues.”
