Song Premiere: James A.M. Downes Covers Bon Iver’s “22 (OVER S∞∞N)”

February 2, 2017

Folk/Americana artist James A.M. Downes will begin a Facebook LIVE February Concert “Residency” tonight. He will perform every Thursday this month (Feb. 2, 9, 16, 23) from 8-8:20pm at www.facebook.com/jamesAMdownes. To mark the occasion, today we share his version of Bon Iver’s “22 (OVER S∞∞N).”

Downes tells Relix, “When I first heard Bon Iver’s 22, A Million, I was stunned by the bravery and sensitivity of it all. It was elusive and mysterious. I loved that in contrast to the enigmatic arrangements, at the core of these misty tunes was simple songwriting. I wanted to create my own version that payed homage to that simple songwriting. I asked my good friend Brett Crudgington (of Brooms) to help lay down some piano and then I’d try my hand at the rest. Our intention was to take a stab at creating something new, yet holding true to the spook that makes the original so alluring Thank you to Brett Crudgington for the inspirational piano performance. Thank you to Greg and Andrew Seltzer for the inspirational mixing performance.”
