Song Premiere: firekid “’Lay By Me”

April 15, 2015

Dillon Hodges was just 17 years old when he won the National Guitar Championship. Following his college years in Alabama, Dillon moved to Nashville to expand on a sound originally rooted in bluegrass. He developed firekid and he then returned to Alabama to record his debut in Muscle Shoals with producer and songwriter Sam Hollander (The Fray, Blues Traveler). While Atlantic Records will release that album this summer, it will be preceded on April 21 by a three song EP titled Live 2/19/15. Today we premiere “Lay By Me” from that EP.

firekid tells Relix, “’Lay By Me’ was really the beginning of what turned into firekid. I flew to California on a whim to write with some friends. We’d talked about writing together for years, but the opportunity had never presented itself. ‘Lay By Me’ was the first song we wrote together.”
