Song Premiere: Blair Crimmins “Passed Around”

January 19, 2017

Blair Crimmins
is a multi-instrumentalist whose goal is to bring Ragtime and 1920’s style Dixieland Jazz to modern audiences. In the process, he crossed the country on tour with a horn section consisting of trumpet, clarinet and trombone, performing headlining dates and opening for groups such as Mumford & Sons and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The fourth studio album from the Atlanta-based artist, You Gotta Sell Something, is set for release on February 17 and today we premiere “Passed Around” from the forthcoming record, which is now available for pre-order.

Crimmins tells Relix that the song is “one of the most exciting tracks on the album because of its gospel sound. That genre is new musical territory for me. All the lyrics were written first so I had to tailor the music to fit the lyrics and I was initially having a hard time with that. Although it’s not a religious song, the words were so introspective and existential that I eventually gravitated toward a gospel feel. Once I did that, everything fell into place.”
