Song Premiere: Babetown’s “I See Monsters” (Ryan Adams Cover)

August 17, 2016

Husband and wife duo Babetown, comprised of Brooklyn’s Jessica Leibowitz and Danny Ross, are putting a unique spin on Ryan Adams’ 2004 record Love is Hell after the Jacksonville, NC singer-songwriter released his famed cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989. Dubbed 1989 is Hell, the duo have reimagined Adams’ songs in the style of the pop icon Swift.

Created entirely in their Greenpoint apartment, Ross and Leibowitz will release the full compilation on August 31 and today, we premiere “I See Monsters” from the record.

On the tune, played in the style of Swift’s “How You Get the Girl,” the couple says, “‘I See Monsters’ has always been one of our favorite Ryan Adam songs. The ferris wheel lyrics are evocative and also reminiscent of a Taylor Swift song. Transforming this dark and slow meditation into a dance banger was a fun challenge, and it’s become one of our faves on 1989 is HELL. Plus, it’s one of the only tracks on our album with a real life acoustic instrument — a nice change from all the synthesizers.”
