Song Premiere: Anders Parker “I Don’t Do That Anymore”

March 10, 2017

On April 14, Recorded & Freed Records will issue the new studio effort from Anders Parker. The Man Who Fell From Earth finds Parker (Varnaline, Space Needle) wringing emotion out of his latest material in a spare setting, accompanied by a string trio, pedal steel and acoustic guitar. Today we premiere “I Don’t Do That Anymore” from the forthcoming release (which is now available for pre-order). In reflecting upon the songs, Parker tells Relix, “We all change but we are all the same. All the cells in our bodies, with the exception of our eyes and neurons in our cerebral cortex, regenerate constantly. I’m still the kid who started playing drums in high school, but I’m not. I don’t do that anymore, but I may. You can drive yourself crazy, it’s easy, don’t try it. Guitar is tuned to DADGAD. Might be my favorite of all the beautiful string arrangements done by Javier Arau on the album.”

Starting on March 28 Parker will take to the road for a series of dates opening for Son Volt. Parker has toured and recorded with Son Volt’s Jay Farrar on a few occasions, starting in 2006 with their Gob Iron project and more recently in 2012, also alongside Jim James and Will Johnson to celebrate Woody Guthrie’s 100th birthday with New Multitudes. Parker’s upcoming dates appear below the stream.
