Seventh Grader Daphne Writes Trey Anastasio the Sweetest Note Ever

Rob Slater on September 18, 2017

During Trey Anastasio’s Saturday night show in Portland, ME, the guitarist was handed a letter from Daphne, a seventh grader at Marshwood Middle School. As you’ll see below, it is one of the sweetest things you’ll ever read.

“You have taught me that I can do anything,” Daphne wrote to Anastasio, an artist she says she’s seen three times in concert and “loved every single one of them.” Daphne also says she is a musician, she sings, and prefers to express herself musically much like Anastasio.

Moments after handing the note to Trey, she received one of her very own. “The kind words in your letter made my day,” Anastasio wrote back.

Read both notes below.

Daphne’s note:

Dear Trey,

Hi my name is Daphne, I’m in the 7th grade and I go to Marshwood Middle School. I have listened to your music since I was a baby. My mom Dawn Jenkings helped me figure out your music. I have been to 3 of your concerts and loved every single one of them. You have taught me that I can do anything I can do and I’m a musician too. I sing. Anyway, as something I think you said here it is: “It’s easier for me to express myself on a musicial level than with the English language.” That is all I have to say. Thank you for your music.

Daphne Sciascia

P.S. It would be very cool to meet you.

Anastasio’s response:

Dear Daphne,

The kind words in your letter made my day. Keep singing!! And I do believe you can do anything. Thank you so much for your letter.

Love and Light,

Trey
