Noted Rock and Roll Alien Jake Cinninger Plays Dynamic Solo Show in Chicago

If Jake Cinninger were one of the aliens inhabiting this great Earth in Men in Black, he’d be the one you’d most obviously point to as not from this planet, particularly when he has a guitar in his hands.

At a rare solo show in Chicago at the Tonic Room, Cinninger dipped into nearly every aspect of his musical talent to form a one-man (mostly) cover band, with a full pedal and keyboard setup along with electric, bass and acoustic guitars for one of the most dynamic and somewhat improbable solo shows you’ll ever see.

“This show came about a while back and I was like, ‘How can we change it up and make it different than your normal, acoustic, somber evening?,” Cinninger said at the beginning of the show. “I’m doing everything without a space bar, if you know what that means.”

The guitarist then proceeded to show off most of the tools on stage with a spooky improv jam with unknown lyrics. He continued the night with staple UM covers like Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams,” Bob Seger’s “Night Moves,” Marshall Tucker Band’s “Can’t You See” and many others. You also get a chance to hear what a Jake-solo version of “Wizard Burial Ground,” “Nopener” and “Bad Poker” sound like. Watch the full set below.
