The tributes to David Bowie will probably continue throughout the year, and this one is one of the finest you’ll see as Nicole Atkins teamed with Postmodern Jukebox to present a jazz standard interpretation of Bowie’s iconic tune “Heroes.” 

Maybe even better than this performance is the fact that all proceeds from the song this week will go to cancer research, the disease that took David Bowie at the age of 69. 

On the tune, Atkins told Jambase, “Scott and I used to sing jazz standards together back in the days when we were in Sleep No More in NYC, and we’ve been waiting for the right time to record something together. We each have a parent that are cancer survivors and have so many friends that have been similarly affected by this disease. After David Bowie’s passing it seemed a fitting tribute and the right time to come together and record one of his songs and help raise money for cancer research.”
