Nashville TV Sports Anchor Fired Over Prince-Themed Broadcast

Prince tributes extended far past the musical stage, as Dan Phillips, the sports anchor for Fox 17 in Nashville, TN, paid tribute to The Purple One last week with a clever Prince-themed sportscast that included highlights of the Predators/Ducks playoff game, an Atlanta Braves baseball game and a Vanderbilt baseball preview.

All in all, he worked in references and lyrics to tunes like “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Purple Rain,” “When Doves Cry,” “1999” and many more in a very impressive five-minute clip.

Unfortunately, Phillips was fired yesterday, citing this particular broadcast. “Unfortunately, there were apparently some viewers, as well as management at the station, who did not feel the same way. They felt I was insensitive,” Phillips wrote on his Facebook page. “And as a result, I was terminated today.”

The bummer in all of this is that Phillips called Prince “my favorite musical artist” and paid a very tasteful, humorous and clever tribute to him on-air in the best way he knew how. You can be the judge below, as Phillips has kept the video up on his Facebook page.

Insensitive? I think not. Watch below (via Awful Announcing)
