Metallica’s Lars Ulrich Once Ran Lights for Oasis

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has certainly cemented his legacy as a founding member of one of the biggest rock bands in history, but little did you know he’s also manned the light board for a band that once dubbed themselves bigger and better than the Beatles.

Appearing on the popular Men in Blazers show, Ulrich (who also picked his ideal musical soccer lineup) recalled a time in the spring of 1995, just months before Oasis released their iconic (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, that the drummer found himself in The Stone Pony during one of the band’s early club gigs.

“They had three or four crew guys with them and there was nobody to run the lighting board,” Ulrich said. “I ended up turning the seven lights in the club on and off.” Ulrich said the only reason he ended up on the light board is because he was the only one who knew the songs.
