Metallica’s Kirk Hammett Posts Lengthy Response to Donald Trump’s Inauguration Speech

January 22, 2017

Metallica’s guitarist Kirk Hammett responded to President Donald Trump’s inauguration speech with a lengthy diatribe on Twitter saying that the speech “sounds, to me, familiar to what was said in speeches going around Germany in the 190s and later Russia in the 1940s.”

Hammett continued, saying that “the system wants us divided, so it’s easier to control us emotionally.” He referenced Trump’s mention of “American carnage,” saying that people must reject that notion and that “we are a better nation right now than ever, better than just five years ago.”

The guitarist also touched on the current administration’s lack of belief in climate change, calling them “Earth killers.” Hammett continued, “Let’s not stand for their preaching lies about our Mother Earth. Deny the deniers.”

Hammett is just one of many musicians speaking out in demonstration against President Trump, as members of The National, Pearl Jam, Courtney Barnett, Jeff Tweedy and many others showed up in various cities for yesterday’s Women’s March.
