Metallica’s James Hetfield Narrowly Avoids Disaster After Falling into a Hole on Stage

September 5, 2017

It’s not my job to analyze just why there was a giant death hole in the middle of Metallica’s stage setup, but it should be someone’s responsibility.

At last night’s show in Amsterdam, James Hetfield was wrapping up a verse of the band’s new song “Now That We’re Dead” and then actually almost met his end when he unsuspectingly fell into a hole in the stage, unfortunately positioned right behind his mic stand. Hetfield remained on stage and finished the song despite wincing in pain.

This brings about memories of Dave Grohl’s fateful tumble early in the Foo Fighters’ Sonic Highways world tour which resulted in a broken leg. Thankfully, Hetfield was fine and managed to finish the show but there is no doubt he’s sore today.
