Matt Ryan Spent His Super Bowl Week Listening to Mumford & Sons, Joins Steph Curry and Pau Gasol as Superfan Athletes
The quest to uncover Mumford & Sons fans in the sports world rages on and we have our newest member to the club: Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.
First we told you about NBA MVP and all-world shooter Steph Curry and then San Antonio Spurs forward Pau Gasol, who was pumping the band’s new album Wilder Mind on the way to a road trip. Now we have Matty Ice, fresh off a 25-point blown lead in the Super Bowl, who confessed to his Mumford fandom during the Super Bowl’s always off-topic and wildly unnecessary media day.
Charlotte Wilder for SBNation got Ryan to dish on just what he’s listening to during the biggest week of his life, and he opted for Mumford & Sons’ latest EP, Johannesburg.
“Hey Matt, got a question,” I half-yelled in his elevated direction. “What are you listening to this week?”
“Um, a little bit of everything,” Ryan said. “Mumford and Sons has Johannesburg out, an EP, good stuff. I listen to a lot of different stuff. We’ve got a pretty eclectic mix, so just a little bit of everything.”
“Have you heard Migos’ new album?” I asked.
“I haven’t! I gotta check it out,” he said.
“Your teammates are listening to it,” I said.
“OK, I gotta check it out,” he said.
“It’s called Culture,” I said.
So, there you have it. Three’s company in the Mumford & Sons Sports Club. Who will be next? My money is on a Manning brother.
