Liam Gallagher’s First Solo Show was a Cathartic, Beautiful Tribute to Manchester

May 31, 2017

Manchester is a grieving city after a terrorist attack claimed the lives of 22 concertgoers at an Ariana Grande show, but the locals got a chance to pay tribute to the fallen last night at the Ritz with Liam Gallagher playing the first of many solo shows to come.

Gallagher sauntered on stage and launched right into the Oasis cut “Rock N Roll Star” and the crowd went positively wild as the stadium-shaking energy of songs Gallagher wrote with his brother Noel all those years ago proved to be a much needed therapy session for those in pain.

Along with Oasis songs like “Morning Glory,” “D’You Know What I Mean” and “Be Here Now,” the night closed with an emotional acapella version of the band’s “Live Forever” as a tribute to the 22 who lost their lives. As the crowd chanted his name at the beginning of the show, Gallagher quoted the opening line of The Beatles’ “I Am the Walrus” by saying: “I am he, As you are he, As you are me, And we are all together.”
