Let’s Revisit the Last Time Phish Went “Nuts” in Dayton, 20 Years Ago

July 18, 2017

Tonight, Phish continue their short pre-Baker’s Dozen summer tour run at the Nutter Center at Ohio’s Wright State University (the band is streaming the performance for free via YouTube), and as some of you may remember, the last time the quartet played this particular venue was nearly 20 years ago, when they took the Nutter Center by storm on December 7, 1997.

Considered one of Phish’s all-time greatest performances, 12/7/97 was a highlight in a tour full of highlights. The first set bursts out of the gates with a run of “AC/DC Bag”> “Psycho Killer”> “Jesus Just Left Chicago” and keeps things rolling nicely with “It’s Ice” sandwiched with “Swept Away” and “Steep” and the closing run of “Tube”> “Slave to the Traffic Light.” The second set didn’t disappoint, either, featuring a bustout of “Boogie On Reggae Woman” for the first time in 988 shows, among other strong jams in “Wolfman’s Brother” and “Possum.” The night was then rounded out with an encore of The Beatles’ “A Day in the Life.”

Lucky for us, the show is available for streaming below. Let’s all prepare for another night of Phish going “nuts” by reliving one of the top moments in the group’s storied history.
