Lars Ulrich Picks His Soccer Team Comprised Solely of Musicians Including Liam and Noel

September 29, 2016

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich joined the funny guys on Men in Blazers to talk all things soccer (or “football” as it is called elsewhere) and Roger Bennett and Michael Davies asked Ulrich to come up with his lineup comprised of only musicians.

Of course, Ulrich went with a member of one of his favorite bands, Deep Purple’s Richie Blackmore. “He’s too cool to play anywhere else,” he said of Blackmore at center forward. Iron Maiden’s Steve Harris came in at right winger while Damon Albarn of Blur/Gorillaz anchored the defense with the Gallagher brothers.

“Nowadays you can have Noel and Damon together because they’ve become best friends,” Ulrich said. “But you can’t have Noel and Liam,” the hosts chimed in. That brought us to goalie, which Ulrich tapped none other than Meatloaf to anchor the position.
