John Mayer Expands on Early Career Success on Sammy Hagar’s ‘Rock & Roll Road Trip’
Sammy Hagar will launch another season of his Rock & Roll Road Trip that’ll include a visit with John Mayer that’ll surely cover a wide-variety of topics and today a clip from that visit, as the episode will serve as the season premiere.
In it, Mayer dishes on his early success behind hits like “Your Body is a Wonderland” and the fear that his career options would be narrowed down, prompting him to join up with Pino Palladino and Steve Jordan as the John Mayer Trio. “I began to see the possibilities for my career get smaller, like claustrophobic,” he says. Mayer then relates his next big single, “Daughters,” that he didn’t want to be a hit. “If ‘Daughters’ is a hit, then I’m this guy forever.”
“I’ve got to do something that brings me back to my roots,” he says of joining up with the John Mayer Trio for a more blues-oriented approach.
