Holy Hell, Foo Fighters Just Revived the Rock Festival

Rob Slater on June 20, 2017

When the Foo Fighters do it, they do it big and the band is back in the biggest, loudest way with Concrete and Gold, their ninth LP. The album is of course supported by the first of many touring stints and one special event to kick it all off: Cal Jam 17.

The event is an all-out rock and roll summit, bringing together the Foos and Queens of the Stone Age, Cage the Elephant, Liam Gallagher, The Kills, Royal Blood, Japandroids, Bob Mould, Bully, White Reaper and a whole lot more, the likes of which we haven’t seen in quite some time.

It seems so fitting that as some of the very first rock festivals like Monterey Pop and Magic Mountain Festival celebrate their 50th anniversaries, a true rock festival rises from the ashes as festivals try to bury the genre with their more mainstream, easily accessible pop and electronic music.

In a note posted to accompany the announcement (read below), Grohl said that the band plans on celebrating their “biggest sound album ever” with one of the biggest rock and roll parties of the last decade.

Long live the rock and roll festival.
