Here’s the Historic Temple of the Dog Reunion at Pearl Jam Twenty in 2011

May 23, 2017

Chris Cornell has popped up at Pearl Jam shows over the years but never quite like he did in 2011 when the band celebrated their 20th anniversary with a blowout at Alpine Valley.

Eddie Vedder welcomed Cornell out to the stage and then ceded the spotlight to the Soundgarden frontman so Cornell could lead a very rare Temple of the Dog reunion as the band tore through songs from their lone record released in the aftermath of Mother Love Bone frontman Andy Wood’s death.

“I don’t know when we’ll ever get to do that again,” Vedder said as Cornell departed the stage. They would do it again in 2016 when Temple of the Dog embarked on their very first tour in support of their album 25 years later.

“It was a turning point in my life and everybody’s lives when we lost him,” Cornell said of Wood before introducing the album’s lead track “Say Hello 2 Heaven.” Surely, that sentiment is echoed with Cornell’s recent passing at the age of 52.
