Here’s the Grateful Dead Playing “Johnny B. Goode” As Recommended by Mickey Hart

March 20, 2017

The immense loss of Chuck Berry is being felt across the rock and roll spectrum and the Dead’s Mickey Hart weighed in on Facebook earlier today with some condolences for Berry as well as a few clips of the Dead taking Berry’s immortal brand of rock for a spin over the years.

“Chuck Berry’s contribution to music is immeasurable,” Hart wrote. “The Grateful Dead had many of his songs in our repertoire and a few that in total were performed over 1,100 times. Enjoy some favorites today in honor of the father of rock ‘n’ roll. May the four winds blow him safely home.”

Hart particularly singled out this 1978 version of “Johnny B. Goode” played at Winterland’s closing night on New Year’s Eve. Listen below.
