Here’s a Whole Bunch of Tributes from Gov’t Mule on New Year’s Eve

Rob Slater on January 2, 2017

One of the more gut-wrenching decisions bands had to make this New Year’s Eve was which of the far too many musicians to pay homage to as this dismal year came to an end. Some opted for Leonard Cohen or Bowie or Prince, but Gov’t Mule went ahead and checked that “all of the above” box.

The band’s Beacon Theatre throwdown made you nostalgic about everyone we lost in the world of music this year as they welcomed a variety of guests for tributes to, of course, David Bowie and Prince as well as Merle Haggard, Sharon Jones, Glenn Frey, Leonard Cohen, Maurice White, Bernie Worrell, Leon Russell and many others. Surely more videos will surface to YouTube in the coming days, but here’s an initial dusting to take you down memory lane and remember some of the absolutely timeless songwriters lost in 2016.
