Five Fall Releases to Get Excited About

Rob Slater on September 25, 2014

Ah, fall. The leaves are changing, the days will eventually shorten and the holidays are right around the corner. On top of all of that goodness (notice how anything pumpkin-flavored wasn’t mentioned), there are plenty of new releases to be excited and intrigued over in the coming months.

From the return of Prince to a unique interpretation of a movie’s soundtrack, here are five releases you should be excited about while you sip on those pumpkin-spiced lattes (if you must).

Prince | Art Official Age & Plectrumelectrum

Release Date: September 30

Finally, after all of the secret pancake parties, random pop-up London shows, Arsenio performances and countless other examples, Prince will finally release not one but TWO new albums next week. A band The Purple One has described as his best ever, 3RDEYEGIRL will be fully realized on PlectrumElectrum.

Foxygen | …And Star Power

Release Date: October 14

After a near breakup last year, Foxygen returns with an album described in a teaser as a “svelte 82-minute run time of psych-ward folk.” Inviting a “gaggle of guest stars” also isn’t a bad way to drum up hype, either.

Primus | Primus and the Chocolate Factory

Release Date: October 21

Classic Primus lineup playing the Willy Wonka soundtrack. What more could you want?

Foo Fighters | Sonic Highways

Release Date: November 10

In what is sure to be the rockiest, loudest, most in-your-face album of the year, the Foo’s follow-up to 2011’s stellar Wasting Light was recorded in eight different cities at different studios. The album will also be accompanied by an HBO series chronicling the making of the album. Either way, Grohl and the Foos are back in our lives, which is always a great thing.

Look for this album to anchor their setlists for the next two years as they will undoubtedly relentlessly sell out venues around the world and may even find themselves earning that (wishful thinking) elusive first Bonnaroo slot.

TV On the Radio | Seeds

Release Date: November 18

Following the unfortunate passing of bassist Gerard Smith, TV On the Radio is back with their first studio album since 2011. During that time, the band has kept busy with sporadic touring (they hit the festival circuit hard this summer) and side projects, as Tunde Adebimpe put out an album with his new band Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band.
