Father John Misty (And Joe Russo) Deliver _Pure Comedy_ Standout on _The Tonight Show_

May 13, 2017

Father John Misty brought Pure Comedy to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with a performance of “Total Entertainment Forever,” one of the early standouts of what could be the album of the year so far.

Along with his usual band, which now includes a full horn section, Josh Tillman welcomed Joe Russo on percussion. Russo, who attended Tillman’s show the previous night at Brooklyn Steel, joked on his Instagram that he’s “the Mickey [Hart]” of the band. Though Russo was the rare artist to make it all the way to Madison Square Garden with Furthur before he performed on late night TV, he made his network TV debut backing Craig Fain on The Tonight Show in October of 2015.
