Fare Thee Well Revisited: Trey Shines in Santa Clara Closer

June 28, 2016

The final night of the Santa Clara leg of the Fare Thee Well celebration found a band seemingly rid of the opening night jitters and ready to stretch their improvisational legs. The result was one of the finest shows of the five night stand, combining improvisation with some of the Dead’s finest.

This night also began the “Let Trey Sing” movement, as fans noted after opening night that the Phish guitarist seemed less involved than the other featured players. The ensemble quickly rectified this, providing one of the most electric moments of the Santa Clara run as Anastasio led the group on a ripping “Alabama Getaway” in the first set. The guitarist’s playing was exponentially more confident than the previous night, and that alone propelled the band to newer heights setting the stage for the final three shows in Chicago.

Watch some highlights from the final Levi’s Stadium show, played one year ago today.
