Eddie Vedder Delivers Powerful Cover of Fugazi’s “I’m So Tired” as Subtle Tribute to Chris Cornell

May 30, 2017

Eddie Vedder hasn’t officially released a statement regarding the death of Chris Cornell, but he certainly paid tribute to the late Soundgarden frontman and fellow Seattle rocker during his solo kickoff in Amsterdam.

Vedder debuted a cover of Fugazi’s “I’m So Tired” to kick off the encore, featuring him alone on a piano. The song touches on elements of death, including suicide, and served as one of several subtle tributes to Cornell on the night. Vedder also altered lyrics to Pearl Jam tunes like “Long Road” and “Sometimes,” singing “without you something is missing” in the former and “where were you, dear God?” in the latter.

At one point, an audience member yelled “I love you” at Vedder, to which he responded: “Thank you. I’m thinking about a lot of people tonight. And some in particular and their families. And I just know that healing takes time, if it ever happens. It takes time, and that means you have to start somewhere. So let it be music. Let it be love and togetherness. And let it be Amsterdam.”
