Give Dead & Company some credit: They’re getting there little by little. Last night was another step closer to that unpredictability that you certainly hope to see from the group as they forayed into a surprise acoustic “Dark Star” in the first set at Fenway Park. 

Emerging out of their customary acoustic “Friend of the Devil,” John Mayer and Bob Weir dipped into the first verse of the song and included it in a brief acoustic jam before “Ripple,” closing out one of the band’s most musically surprising moments of their short lifespan.
