Dave Grohl Talks New Book with Mom, Sits in with Jon Batiste and Preservation Hall Jazz Band on _Colbert_

April 27, 2017

Virginia and Dave Grohl appeared on Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night to talk about Mama Grohl’s new book From Cradle to Stage, which chronicles the stories of the mothers of your favorite rock stars including Warren Haynes and Geddy Lee, among many others.

Colbert ribbed the drummer over an old report card his mother brought that showed his rebellious, punk rock roots forming early as he scored “unsatisfactory” in most categories. When the interview concluded, Grohl sprinted over to a drum kit to jam with house band Jon Batiste & Stay Human and that night’s musical guest, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, who supported their new record So It Is with a performance of “Santiago” with all parties involved. Pres Hall appeared on Foo Fighters’ last record Sonic Highways and the band recorded in the famed New Orleans institution during their process, ultimately coming out with the song “In the Clear.”
