In the “Best Story of the Day” category, former Hootie and the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker made a surprise appearance at Mt. Pleasant, SC’s Wando High School talent show to share the stage with Frankie Antonelli. Antonelli, who has Down Syndrome, performed Rucker’s song “While I Still Got the Time” while decked out in a Darius Rucker 2012 Tour shirt. Towards the end (about 3:15 on the video above), Antonelli’s idol walked out, microphone in hand, and the two sang the last few verses together.

Rucker, a native of Charleston, SC and graduate of University of South Carolina in Columbia, is well-known around the South Carolina area for these random acts of kindness. Along with appearances like this, Rucker also actively supports St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital as well as hosting his annual golf tournament after the Masters in April which features a Hootie and the Blowfish concert and benefits the band’s foundation which in turn donates the proceeds to various charities.

After the show, Frankie’s mother Debbie Antonelli tweeted a picture of the two hanging backstage.
