Celebrating Phish’s Triumphant Return to the West Coast

Phish have confirmed their summer tour schedule, and among the dates are a batch of shows that are sure to make more than a few West Coast folks happy, as the band will return to the far side of the country for the first time since the summer of 2016.

Though the Vermont Quartet seem to be sticking closer and closer to home these days, and many of their most renowned shows come from their stints on the East Coast – New York City in particular – the band has had some great success in the states that line the Pacific Ocean, and now we celebrate their triumphant return (I’m taking the opportunity to reclaim the word after Phish jokingly called their New Year’s Eve run at Madison Square Garden a “triumphant” return right after Baker’s Dozen), which will include stops at The Gorge in Washington, Bill Graham Auditorium in San Francisco and The Forum in Inglewood, CA.

And what better way to prepare for a grand return than revisiting the blast Phish had the last time they struck out for the far Western skies. In 2015, the band’s summer tour kicked off in Bend, OR, and traveled through the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA, and Inglewood’s Forum. Back then, Phish shared some pro-shot footage of some of the more notable jams of the run, and damn did they choose some winners.

Below, watch a straight-up dirty “Simple” from the 7/22/15 Bend show along with that night’s “Bathtub Gin” encore, plus the over 30-minute emotional-rollercoaster run of “Twist” > “Light” from 7/24/15 in Mountain View. Get ready, West Coasters. Here’s what you have to look forward to this July.
