Bruce Springsteen’s Prince Tribute Still Tugs at the Heartstrings

April 21, 2017

One year ago today, the cruel fickle thing that was the year of 2016 dealt us another fatal blow, taking Prince from this Earth. The tributes poured in seconds after the news of his passing and didn’t stop for weeks after, the most poignant and emotional arriving in the form of Bruce Springsteen’s opening number at his April 23rd show in Brooklyn.

Never played before, Springsteen started an emotional version of “Purple Rain,” bathed in purple lights, that was punctuated by a searing, cathartic solo from Nils Lofgren.

As we mark one year to the day since Prince left us, relive the pro-shot version of that emotional performance below.
