Bruce Springsteen Wrote “Hungry Heart” for the Ramones, Details ‘The River’ on ‘Fallon’

December 18, 2015

While Bruce Springsteen didn’t perform on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he did sit down for a lengthy interview about the new box set centered around The River sessions. Springsteen told some fascinating stories about the late 70s and early 80s for Bruce and the E Street Band.

Among them, the fact that he initially wrote “Hungry Heart” for the Ramones. When demoing the tune for Johnny Ramone, the punk rocker told Bruce to keep it for himself, leading to The Roots playing a punk rock-infused version of the song. Springsteen also dished on the impact of The River, saying it’s the first time women started coming to the shows.

Watch both segments below. Springsteen will also serve as the musical guest on tomorrow’s episode of Saturday Night Live
