Bruce Springsteen Still the Coolest, Signs Note of Absence for Fifth Grader

Bruce Springsteen is forever The Boss and continues to prove it by doing such Boss-y things like signing this absence note for a fifth grader in Philadelphia who came to meet him during one of his book appearances.

Springsteen was holding court at the Central Library of the Free Library of Philadelphia when, as The Philadelphia Inquirer reports, Masterman School fifth grader Michael Fenerty approached Bruce with his dad Mike. Being a good dad, Mike asked his school about their policy for a student missing a day. The school recommended Mike get Bruce to write an absence note. So, they did.

When the Fenertys got their chance to get some facetime with The Boss at the meet and greet, young Michael stepped up to the plate. “”My son said, `Bruce, would you sign my absence note?’,” Fenerty told the Inquirer. “[Springsteen] lit up. He was affectionate toward Michael as soon as he saw him. He said, `I have to read it first, that’s how I got in trouble with my first contract.'”

Springsteen obliged, signing the note and snapping a photo with young Michael. Thankfully, the principal at Masterman School didn’t get the real copy, that’ll stay with the family. “I only gave her a photocopy.”
