Arcade Fire Were (Maybe) Detained at the UK Border

June 6, 2017

It’s admittedly difficult to decipher reality from not in the world of Arcade Fire, especially in the midst of an album rollout that has taken us to a live stream in Death Valley and on pop-up stages outside of major festivals.

But it appears that the band may have had some trouble crossing from France into the UK last night as they make their way to tomorrow’s show in Scunthorpe, England.

Will Butler tweeted at 5 AM ET that the border agent “doesn’t believe” the band is in town to play Scunthorpe and that they are being detained. Granted, this is tweeted in conversation with “EverythingNowCo,” a Twitter account created in promotion with their new album. The account returned today with a “statement regarding the detention of rock band Arcade Fire at the UK border.”

“This was a routine stop. No malfeasance was suspected or found, and the band was released after a routine search. Contrary to scurrilous rumors (or rumours, as they say in that country), no bribes were offered or accepted for the band’s release,” the note read. I’m going to go with album promotional ploy.

Either way, Butler released this video of the band cruising down the highway on a rainy day after being freed from whoever tried to imprison them forever.
