Video Premiere: Rainbow Girls “Cameron Sterling”

November 2, 2017

The dynamic acoustic trio known as Rainbow Girls, featuring Erin Chapin, Caitlin Gowdey and Vanessa May, will release their debut album American Dream on November 8, marking the culmination of relentless touring and songwriting. The album also represents their response to the current social and political landscape.

“The news is something we all keep a pretty close eye on, despite how hard it can be to stomach,” Rainbow Girls told Relix. “One song in particular (‘Cameron Sterling’) was actually directly inspired by listening to and coping with the news. We were in the van last July, listening to Democracy Now!’s report about the killing of Alton Sterling by Baton Rouge police. This news source is one we all value and respect greatly, but I couldn’t really take in anything anyone was saying once they played a sound clip of Alton Sterling’s wife addressing the public/media for the first time. And then I really couldn’t even hear what she was saying either, for the pain and grief of their 15 year old son, Cameron, crying beside her, struck me so hard I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get it out of my head.”
